| University | Price | What it covers | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| SZTESzeged | €80 | A place in a university dormitory, given as an average monthly expense without utilities on the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration's living-costs page. It is a single average figure, not a per-room rate table — the university's central Dormitories page publishes no rates at all. What is includedThe same table puts private rented accommodation at 200-500 EUR/month, food at about 350 EUR/month and a city-wide public transport pass at 12 EUR/month. On renting, the page adds that the university can help find housing, that flat rents run from a minimum of 200 EUR to a maximum of 500 EUR a month (payable in HUF or EUR) depending on location and comfort, that a deposit is usually required and that utilities are not included in the rent. | eco.u-szeged.huread 25 Aug 2026 |
| MATEGödöllő | €120 to €180 | MATE's own campus FAQ page states typical dormitory accommodation cost across its campuses, noting it is lower at rural campuses and higher in Budapest. | en.uni-mate.huread 6 Sept 2026 |
| BMEBudapest | €200 to €320 | Place in one of the Magánkollégium private student dormitories in Budapest, from the housing guide BME’s own International Mentor Team keeps for its international students2 room types
Utilities are included; the lower figure is a twin room and the higher a single. Two months’ rent is asked as a deposit. BME has no contract with these dormitories, so the rules and the booking are between the student and the operator. BME does run its own halls, but it allocates them through the faculties and does not publish a rate for them, and other dormitories on the same list run up to about 420 EUR for a single room. | imt.bme.huread 19 Sept 2026 |
| Semmelweis UniversityBudapest | €300 to €500 | Private rental prices in the central districts of Budapest, as Semmelweis publishes them on its own housing page for prospective students — about €300 for a room and about €500 for a studio. Approximate figures, and not a dormitory rate.2 room types
Semmelweis suggests looking in the 8th and 9th districts, where most of its campus buildings are, or the neighbouring ones. Its dormitory places are limited, allocated on social and financial need, and applied for in August; the university publishes no dormitory rate of its own. Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders get either a free dormitory place subject to capacity or a HUF 40,000 a month housing contribution, which Semmelweis itself warns does not cover full rental costs in Budapest. | semmelweis.huread 25 Aug 2026 |
| UVMBBudapest | €300 to €500 | Typical rented accommodation in Budapest, as the university's own admissions FAQ states it. This is not university housing: the FAQ says outright that the university does not have dormitory places for international students, and its accommodation page repeats that it has no dormitory, so students live in rented apartments or private dormitories near the campus. What is includedElsewhere on the same FAQ the university puts accommodation at approximately 200-500 EUR/month alongside food at 150-300 EUR/month and cultural or sporting activity at 30-150 EUR/month; the 300-500 EUR figure recorded here is the one given in direct answer to "Do you provide accommodation?". For help arranging a place the university points international students to the accommodation office of a partner, College International Ltd. | new.univet.huread 25 Aug 2026 |
| METU BudapestBudapest | €345 to €550 | Budapest Metropolitan University's contracted partner dormitory, CEU Residence Center, official rates from 1 August 2026. Rate depends on room type (2-bedded shared vs single) and contract length (10-month vs 5-month lease).4 room types
A EUR 750 refundable deposit and a one-time EUR 80 mandatory final cleaning fee apply on top of the monthly rent. | metropolitan.huread 6 Sept 2026 |

| ÓbudaBudapest | HUF 37,000 to HUF 53,000 | Shared room in one of Óbuda University’s own halls, at the self-financing rate that fee-paying students pay in 2026/272 room types
None of the halls offers a single room. The cheaper figure covers Bánki Donát, Kiss Árpád, Geo and Corvin; the dearer one Kandó Kálmán and Hotel@BMF. Hungarian students on a state-funded place pay less, 20,000 to 33,000 Ft. Students on evening, correspondence and distance courses pay the self-financing rate whatever their funding. | koll.uni-obuda.huread 19 Sept 2026 |
| UODDunaújváros | HUF 40,000 | The University of Dunaujvaros automatically offers every international student a place in one of its 4 on-campus hostel buildings (suites with 2, 2+2, or 3+3 beds and a private bathroom, kitchen and laundry on every floor); the university states this flat monthly hostel price. | uniduna.huread 7 Sept 2026 |
| ELTEBudapest | HUF 70,000 | ELTE’s own Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Kollégium in Budapest, the largest hall in its Dormitory Centre at 1,177 places and the one that reserves 144 places for international students. One published rate, for a room with 2 beds. ELTE runs these halls itself through its Dormitory Centre, so this is the university’s own price rather than a separate operator’s.1 room type
The hall has 276 two-bed rooms with their own bathroom and toilet and 175 three-bed rooms, a study room on every floor, a common kitchen on every floor, a gym, buffet, clubs, bicycle storage, an artificial-grass football pitch and a basketball court; internet is provided but the student must bring their own internet cable, and smoking is only allowed outside. ELTE puts the average travel time to its faculties at 20-50 minutes. Its other Budapest dormitories are cheaper and priced on their own pages on the same monthly basis: Vezér út 50 000 Ft/month for a three-bed room and 55 000 Ft/month for a two-bed, Nándorfejérvári út 55 000 Ft/month, Ajtósi Dürer sor 60 000 Ft/month and Damjanich 65 000 Ft/month — so ELTE dormitory places across Budapest run 50 000 to 70 000 Ft a month. Kőrösi is recorded here rather than the cheapest because it is the only one whose page states a quota of international places. | elte.huread 26 Aug 2026 |
| PTEPecs | HUF 79,900 to HUF 103,600 | University of Pécs dormitories available to international students (Szántó, Damjanich and Balassa), published fee per month by dormitory and wing4 room types
The university has ten dormitories in quiet residential areas with easy access to the faculties and the city centre; most have recently been renovated. Rooms are furnished and contain bathrooms, and bedclothes are supplied. Listed facilities are internet access per room, a study room, lounge, bike storage, parking slots, a cafeteria and a student club. | international.pte.huread 25 Aug 2026 |
| DebrecenDebrecen | HUF 120,000 to HUF 140,000 | typical off-campus rent near campus (private accommodation) | edu.unideb.huread 16 Aug 2026 |
How to read these prices
- Each is what the university publishes on its own site, usually for its own halls; the “What it covers” column says exactly what.
- Prices are only compared with others quoted for the same period and currency, so nothing here has been converted or scaled.
- A promotional or time-limited rate is marked and never listed as the cheapest option.
- Open a university to see its tuition, courses and the exact sentence each price came from.
