Japan

Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship — Undergraduate Students

What it pays

Airfare to Japan, tuition at the placement university, and a monthly stipend for living costs, for the full scholarship period (typically 5 years: a 1-year intensive Japanese-language year plus a 4-year undergraduate degree; 6 years for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or 6-year pharmacy courses). Applicants who can already study in Japanese may opt out of the language year.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to high school seniors and recent graduates applying to earn an undergraduate degree at a Japanese university, in any major. Applications are made through a Japanese embassy or consulate (Embassy Recommendation route) or through a Japanese university (University Recommendation route) — this record covers the Embassy Recommendation route as published by the Japanese Embassy in the United States; exact eligibility and deadlines are set annually and vary by the applicant's home country embassy.

Show the eligibility source

Placement university and whether it teaches in English is decided during the scholarship process, not chosen freely by the applicant — most placements involve at least some study in Japanese. Country-specific deadlines and quotas are set by each Japanese embassy; check the embassy or consulate serving your country for the current year's exact requirements and dates.

Turkey

Türkiye Scholarships (Türkiye Bursları) — Undergraduate

What it pays

A monthly stipend, accommodation, a mandatory one-year Turkish language course, health insurance, and a flight ticket, on top of placement at a Turkish university. The scholarship programme's own category list also includes an adaptation programme and an alumni network/academy — the university-placement page describes this as ensuring both financial support and a confirmed university place.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to international (non-Turkish) applicants for bachelor's-level study at Turkish universities, across a wide range of subjects including engineering. Described by the programme itself as competitive and merit-based, evaluated primarily on academic record.

Show the eligibility source

All undergraduate scholars complete a mandatory one-year Turkish-language course (TÖMER) before starting their degree, regardless of the teaching language of the eventual programme — this applies even for placement at English-medium universities such as METU, Bilkent or ITU. Recipients do not choose their own university or programme freely; placement is part of the selection process. This project has not independently verified whether tuition itself is separately waived at the placement university (distinct from the listed stipend/accommodation/insurance/flight benefits above) — the archived official page does not state this directly, so it is not claimed here.

South Korea

Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) — Undergraduate Degrees

What it pays

Airfare, Korean-language training costs, tuition at the placement university, and monthly study allowances, running for the combined length of the Korean-language training plus an associate degree (2-3 years) or bachelor's degree (4-6 years).

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Both the applicant and both parents must hold non-Korean citizenship; applicants must be under 25 years old as of the applicable year, be a high-school graduate (or an associate-degree graduate, for bachelor's applicants), and hold a cumulative GPA of 80% or higher in their most recent education. Selection runs through an Embassy Track (apply via a Korean embassy or consulate in the applicant's home country) or a University Track (apply directly to one of over 80 GKS-participating universities).

Show the eligibility source

KAIST participates in GKS only as a graduate (master's/doctoral) host university on the page this project archived — the undergraduate-track host lists (the Embassy Track's Type A/B universities, and the University Track's University-Industry-Cooperation bachelor's list) do not include KAIST. An undergraduate GKS scholar would therefore be placed at a different GKS-participating university (the undergraduate list includes Seoul National University, Yonsei, Korea University, POSTECH, UNIST, Ewha Womans, Sungkyunkwan and dozens of others), not necessarily KAIST itself. About 500 undergraduate/associate-degree places are offered annually across 80+ universities; the participating-university list and quotas are reissued every year, so applicants should check studyinkorea.go.kr for the current cycle before applying.

Taiwan

Ministry of Education (MOE) Taiwan Scholarship — Undergraduate

What it pays

The Ministry of Education pays up to NTD 40,000 per semester toward tuition and miscellaneous expenses, plus a monthly living allowance of NTD 15,000 or NTD 20,000, for up to 4 years at bachelor's level.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to foreign nationals with at least a secondary-school graduation diploma, an excellent academic record, and good character. Residents of Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao are excluded, as are ROC nationals, overseas Chinese students, and anyone already holding student status in Taiwan or already having held a Taiwan Scholarship for 5 years total. Applications go through the applicant's local Taiwan Representative Office (embassy-equivalent), and separately to the university itself for admission.

Show the eligibility source

The NTD 40,000/semester tuition contribution is a capped amount, not a guaranteed full waiver — this project could not verify NTU Taiwan's own published international tuition to check whether it exceeds that cap (NTU's tuition fields on StudyPath are currently unverified/null), so a recipient placed at a university whose tuition is higher than the capped amount would owe the difference themselves. The scholarship is administered jointly by Taiwan's Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs; recipients must still gain admission to their chosen university independently of the scholarship award.

Hungary

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship — Bachelor's Programmes

What it pays

Full tuition-fee exemption, plus a monthly stipend of HUF 43,700 (roughly EUR 110) toward living expenses for 12 months a year until completion, plus either a free dormitory place or a HUF 40,000/month (roughly EUR 100) accommodation contribution, plus medical insurance including a supplementary policy of up to HUF 65,000/year. The official page itself cautions that the accommodation contribution 'would not cover the full amount of rental costs' in bigger cities, so these are contributions to living costs rather than a guarantee of covering every expense.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens of one of Hungary's roughly 90-100 partner countries — the scholarship runs on bilateral education-cooperation agreements between Hungary and each sending country, and a country with no such agreement is not eligible at all. In practice, applicants apply through and are nominated by their home country's own responsible authority (their 'Sending Partner', typically a ministry of education, national scholarship board, or the Hungarian embassy), not directly to a Hungarian university. Around 900 full degree programmes are on offer, many taught in English, across all higher-education fields and degree levels including bachelor's.

Show the eligibility source

A compulsory, host-institution-taught 'Hungarian as a foreign language and culture' course is required of every bachelor's, master's and one-tier-master's Stipendium Hungaricum holder who started from fall 2020 onward, offered free of charge alongside the (usually English-taught) degree itself, per the programme's own Apply page (stipendiumhungaricum.hu/apply/) — this project viewed that page but could not archive its JavaScript-rendered content through the standard snapshot tool, so it is recorded here as unverified context rather than a quoted, verified claim. Eligibility also depends on which study fields one's own country's bilateral agreement makes available in a given year, not on a fixed universal list.

Kazakhstan

Scholarship Programme for Studying at Universities in Kazakhstan (Foreign Citizens)

What it pays

A Kazakhstani state-budget-financed scholarship programme, distinct from the outbound 'Bolashak' scholarship, that places foreign nationals (including ethnic Kazakhs who hold no Kazakhstani citizenship) at a Kazakhstani university. The governing regulation defines what the programme actually pays for narrowly: the 'scholarship' itself is a stipend that partially covers food, accommodation and study materials. Neither this regulation nor the operator's own scholarship-programme page states, in the text this project could access, whether tuition is paid separately from that stipend — treat this as a state-funded university placement with a partial living stipend, not a confirmed full-tuition scholarship, and confirm the tuition question directly with the Operator or the receiving university before relying on it.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to foreign nationals generally (including ethnic Kazakhs who are not Kazakhstani citizens), applying for a first bachelor's degree — the applicant must not already have completed that education level. Applicants need an identity document (a refugee certificate is accepted), a notarised translation of their secondary-school-leaving document showing a grade of at least 'good', a motivational essay, one reference letter, and a medical/HIV clearance certificate. Unlike the master's and PhD tracks under the same programme, bachelor's applicants do not need a foreign-language proficiency certificate. In the 2026 application round, 490 of the programme's 550 places nationally were allocated to bachelor's degree study, alongside 50 for master's and 10 for PhD, administered by JSC 'Center for International Programs' with applications filed at studyin.kz/admission.

Show the eligibility source

This is a separate, inbound programme from the well-known outbound 'Bolashak' scholarship (which funds Kazakhstani citizens to study abroad and is closed to foreigners) — both happen to be administered by the same body, JSC 'Center for International Programs', which causes some secondary sources to conflate the two. All applicants, including bachelor's candidates, must also pass an online 'adaptive potential' test (80 questions, 120 minutes) and an online interview as part of selection, per the same official regulation (adilet.zan.kz/eng/docs/V1800017520, paragraphs 14-16) — a screening test, not a subject-matter entrance exam. The list of which Kazakhstani universities and fields of study are actually available is only published on the studyin.kz application portal during the live application window (30 March-31 May), so this project could not confirm whether Nazarbayev University specifically participates in a given year.

Saudi Arabia

Government Scholarships in Saudi Public Universities — Internal Track (for Non-Saudi Residents)

What it pays

Saudi public universities award three tiers of government scholarship at their own discretion: 'free' scholarships (full benefits), 'partial' scholarships (a subset of benefits, e.g. a seat only, or a seat plus housing), and paid grants. The Ministry's page itemises a fuller benefits list — healthcare for the student and any dependents brought to reside with them, a financial reward on arrival, housing, shared access to the advantages other students at the institution get, and annual travel tickets — explicitly under the heading 'Advantages of external scholarships' (i.e. the from-abroad route), not the internal/resident route this entry covers. This project could not confirm from the official page whether Internal-track (resident) recipients get that same itemised benefits list or only the tuition waiver implied by 'full benefits' — confirm directly with the awarding university.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

The Ministry of Education distinguishes two non-Saudi scholarship routes: 'Internal scholarships for non-Saudi students residing in the Kingdom with a legal residency' and 'External scholarships for non-Saudi students from outside the Kingdom' — this entry covers the Internal (resident) route, which King Abdulaziz University (KAU) is recorded on StudyPath for. For the Internal route specifically, each university's council sets its own admission rules for 'scholarship students from within', but the Ministry's own baseline requires the applicant to be a regular resident of the Kingdom and to have the approval of whoever holds their residency sponsorship. Across both routes: undergraduate applicants must be 17-25 years old, meet the same admission requirements Saudi nationals face, pass a medical exam and security clearance, not already hold another scholarship from a Saudi institution, and — for some nationalities — have their home government's approval to study in the Kingdom. Health and medical specialties are excluded from this general admission route.

Show the eligibility source

This is a Ministry-of-Education-wide policy framework covering all 27 Saudi public universities, not a KAU-specific guarantee — KAU's own published admission and scholarship terms should still be checked directly at the university level for the resident track StudyPath’s owner is specifically interested in. The Ministry page states applicants apply either directly through the target university's own website, through the Saudi Cultural Attaché in their country, or through the Saudi Embassy if there is no Attaché — an odd mix for an 'internal'/resident applicant already living in the Kingdom, which this project flags rather than resolves.

Brunei

Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship to Foreign Students (BDGS)

What it pays

Full exemption from tuition fees (including acceptance, examination, registration and orientation fees) for the duration of the programme, plus a return economy-class air ticket to and from Brunei, a monthly personal allowance of BND $500, a monthly meals allowance of BND $150, an annual book allowance of BND $600, accommodation at the university/polytechnic's residential college, a baggage-shipment allowance on completion, and comprehensive insurance for the whole scholarship period. Covers study at Diploma, Undergraduate Degree or Postgraduate Master's Degree level.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to international applicants studying in Brunei for the first time, applying to Diploma, Undergraduate Degree or Postgraduate Master's Degree programmes at one of five Brunei institutions: Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan, or Politeknik Brunei. Undergraduate/Diploma applicants must not exceed age 25 as of 1 July of the year the programme starts, and must be proficient in English (Credit 6 at GCE 'O' Level, Grade 'C' in IGCSE English as a second language, IELTS 6.0, or TOEFL 550). Bruneians, Brunei Permanent Residents, and international students already studying or who have previously studied at a Brunei tertiary institution are explicitly excluded from this scholarship.

Show the eligibility source

Course/programme pages for eligible degrees sit on each institution's own site (UBD, UNISSA, UTB, KUPU SB, PB) — this project verified only the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' own scholarship terms page, which is the scheme's official host. No mandatory foreign-language preparation year is disclosed or funded here — English proficiency is an entry bar, not something the scholarship pays for a prep year to reach, unlike MEXT or Türkiye Bursları. An applicant may be required to sit a written English/Malay/Arabic proficiency exam and/or attend an interview as part of selection. Recipients may not hold another scholarship concurrently, may not bring family members at the scholarship's expense, and must leave Brunei immediately upon completion of the programme.

Indonesia

Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship — Bachelor's Degree

What it pays

Tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, an arrival allowance, a book/research allowance, publication assistance, transportation to Indonesia and back on graduation, and monthly health insurance. Before starting degree study — including at bachelor's level — awardees must complete up to one year of Indonesian-language (BIPA) preparation, which the scholarship funds as part of the award and which recipients must pass before their academic classes begin; those academic classes are then conducted in Indonesian, not English.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to prospective international students from developing countries who hold a High School diploma (a bachelor's-degree holder is not eligible to apply at the bachelor's level) and have not exceeded the programme's age ceiling (21 years old, as of 31 December for the 2026 cycle). Applicants generally need an English-proficiency test score (TOEFL ITP 477 / TOEFL iBT 53 / IELTS 5.5 / TOEIC 510 or equivalent), waived for nationals of English-speaking countries or those already enrolled in an English-medium programme, plus a recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin, an academic recommendation letter, legalised academic transcripts, and a passport valid well beyond the application year. Selection includes administrative and academic review, online interviews and psychological tests run by the receiving university. Recipients are placed at one of 47 partner Indonesian universities; the applicant does not freely choose which one.

Show the eligibility source

The official site (knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id) is a JavaScript single-page application; this project captured it with a browser and archived the rendered text, including two FAQ-accordion answers ('What does the KNB Scholarship cover?' and 'Will I study in an international class with English as the medium of instruction?') that are part of the same page but sit behind a click. Most detailed logistics (per-university placement, exact stipend amounts) live in a 2026 Applicant Guide PDF linked from the site, which this project did not archive because it would not render as text. IMPORTANT: unlike MEXT or Türkiye Bursları, KNB's own FAQ states bachelor's classes are 'conducted in Indonesian at regular classes' after the funded one-year BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia) preparation course — this is the same disclosed-and-funded mandatory-language-year pattern as those two schemes, recorded here per this project's stated rule for that pattern, but applicants who assumed an English-medium degree should read this carefully. The application deadline shown on the archived page (31 March 2026) belongs to the KNB Scholarship 2026 cycle; check the official site for the current cycle's dates before applying.

Chile

Beca de Integración Transfronteriza (Cross-Border Integration Scholarship) — AGCID

What it pays

Chilean host universities (Universidad de Tarapacá in Arica, and Universidad de Magallanes in Punta Arenas) fund enrolment and tuition for the regular study plan. AGCID, Chile's International Cooperation Agency, separately funds a monthly living-cost stipend for the academic year, interurban bus fares between the student's home city/country and the Chilean city of study at the start and end of each academic year, return travel home on the same terms, and a one-off annual contribution toward study materials.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open only to recent secondary-school graduates who are nationals of Argentina, Bolivia or Peru, applying for undergraduate (professional-degree-track) study at one of two Chilean host universities: Universidad de Tarapacá (Arica campus — open to Bolivian and Peruvian nationals since 2011) or Universidad de Magallanes (Punta Arenas campus — open since 2018 specifically to Argentine nationals from that country's southern/Patagonian zone). Each host university publishes its own annual call, typically between September and December, stating the specific majors on offer, required documents, deadlines and application procedure. Applications are not made directly to AGCID — they go through the applicant's national 'Punto Focal' (national contact point) or the relevant Chilean embassy/consulate.

Show the eligibility source

Narrower in scope than most entries on StudyPath: this is Chile's Cross-Border Integration Scholarship (Programa de Becas de Integración Transfronteriza), open only to recent secondary-school graduates from Argentina, Bolivia and Peru — not a broad international scholarship. It is the only genuinely inbound, undergraduate, government-coordinated scholarship this project could confirm on Chile's official development-cooperation site (agcid.gob.cl); AGCID's other listed programmes on the same page (Becas República de Chile, Alianza del Pacífico, Nelson Mandela, Manuela Sáenz) are either postgraduate-only (Magíster) or short-term academic-mobility/exchange programmes (a semester or less, while the student stays enrolled at their home university), not full bachelor's degrees, and were excluded on that basis. The archived page is in Spanish and did not state any language-of-instruction requirement or language-preparation year; Argentina, Bolivia and Peru are all Spanish-speaking countries, so this is not expected to be a 'new language' barrier for eligible applicants. The archived snapshot's HTML-entity artifacts (e.g. 'ó' for 'ó') are preserved verbatim in the quotes above because this project's fetch tool does not decode Spanish accented-letter entities — the underlying Spanish text is otherwise unaltered. Specific majors, current-cycle deadlines and per-country quotas are published separately by each host university every September-December, not on this AGCID overview page.

Netherlands

NL Scholarship (formerly Holland Scholarship)

What it pays

A one-off EUR 5,000 award paid in the first year of study. Explicitly not a full-tuition scholarship — it reduces, but does not remove, the international tuition an applicant still has to fund.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to non-EEA nationals applying for a full-time bachelor's (or master's) programme at a participating Dutch institution, who do not already hold a degree from a Dutch institution. Each participating university sets its own additional requirements and deadline.

Show the eligibility source

Financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science together with the participating institutions, and paid for the first year only — a partial offset against tuition, not a route to free study. IMPORTANT: the national scheme permits bachelor's OR master's, but each participating university decides which of its own programmes to open the award to, and several restrict it to master's. University of Twente — the one participating university on StudyPath — states on its own NL Scholarship page that it is "for excellent students from non-EU/EEA countries, applying for a Master's programme at the University of Twente", so a Twente bachelor's applicant CANNOT use this award. Check the specific institution's own page for the level it admits before relying on this scholarship; the participating-university list also changes every year.

HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund — Belt and Road Scholarship

What it pays

Covers full tuition fees for the normal duration of the undergraduate programme, renewed annually subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Awarded to outstanding students from Belt and Road countries (other than the six designated countries, which have their own separate quotas) entering the first year of a full-time publicly-funded undergraduate programme in Hong Kong.

Show the eligibility source

Separate designated-country quotas exist for Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Mongolia and Kazakhstan; everyone else applies under the "Other Countries" strand recorded here. The official pages do NOT publish the eligible-country list themselves — they defer to the Belt and Road Portal — so confirm your own nationality is on that list before relying on this. Applies only at publicly-funded Hong Kong institutions (HKUST, on StudyPath, is one). There is no separate application form: candidates are considered through the institution they are admitted to, so enquire with the university directly.

Germany

Aufstiegsstipendium (German Federal Advancement Scholarship)

Not open to applicants straight from school. Not a school-leaver route. It is built on completed vocational training plus at least two years of work, and its own eligibility text says school-leaving qualifications and school grades play no part.

What it pays

EUR 1,072 per month for full-time study — a EUR 992 basic rate plus EUR 80 book money — paid as a flat rate and therefore independent of income, with a further EUR 160 a month for each child under 14. Students on a part-time or work-integrated degree receive EUR 3,045 per calendar year instead. The money does not have to be repaid. Funding covers a first academic degree at a state or state-recognised higher education institution in Germany, an EU member state or Switzerland, normally leading to a Bachelor or Staatsexamen.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to anyone who has successfully completed a vocational training qualification, then worked for at least two years in total, and can evidence their professional capability. School-leaving qualifications and school grades play no part: professional achievement alone counts, and no Abitur is required. Professional capability can be shown in any one of three equally weighted ways — a very good result in the final vocational or advancement-training examination (overall grade of at least 1.9, or 87 points or more), a top-three placing in a supra-regional vocational skills competition, or a reasoned nomination from a current or former employer. There is no age limit. Applications can be made before studies begin, or during the first or second semester for those already studying.

Show the eligibility source

Funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and administered on its behalf by the Stiftung Begabtenförderung berufliche Bildung (SBB), which runs the selection and supports holders through their degree. Up to 1,500 new scholarships a year; around 5,000 holders at over 300 higher education institutions, making it one of Germany largest study scholarships. IMPORTANT FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS: this is the one German federal scholarship that funds an undergraduate degree, but it is built around German vocational training and work experience rather than school results, so in practice it fits someone who has already completed an Ausbildung — a foreign vocational qualification can be used only after separate recognition, which SBB asks applicants to clarify with its Aufstiegsstipendium team before applying. It is not a route for a school leaver applying to Germany from abroad. The grade bar SBB publishes (1.9 or better, or 87+ points) is on the German vocational marking scales, where a lower grade number is better, so it is left in the eligibility prose rather than converted.

Australia

Australia Awards Scholarships (Australian Government)

What it pays

Full tuition fees, a single return economy airfare to and from Australia, a once-only establishment allowance towards accommodation, textbooks and study materials, a fortnightly Contribution to Living Expenses, a compulsory Introductory Academic Program before formal study begins, Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of the award (award holder only), pre-course English tuition where deemed necessary, and supplementary academic support. Awards run for the minimum period needed to complete the academic program named by the Australian institution, including any preparatory training.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Long-term awards administered by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for people from developing countries, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and TAFE institutions. Eligibility, the courses on offer and the application dates are set country by country under bilateral and regional agreements, so an applicant must check the profile for their own country. Applicants who accept an award sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia agreeing to its conditions.

Show the eligibility source

Two conditions change how this scheme should be read. First, it is a development-aid programme, not an open international scholarship: eligibility is restricted to citizens of DFAT's participating partner countries, and each country has its own profile, priority study areas and deadlines. Second, DFAT states that scholars "are required to leave Australia for a minimum of two years after completing their scholarship", and that failing to do so makes the scholar liable for the full accrued cost of the award — so it is incompatible with plans to stay on in Australia after graduating. Undergraduate study is genuinely covered, but many partner-country profiles offer postgraduate awards only, so check the country profile before assuming a bachelor's degree is available.

Canada

Study in Canada Scholarships (Global Affairs Canada)

Not open to applicants straight from school. Not a school-leaver route. Applicants must already be enrolled full time at, and paying tuition to, a university in their own country, and the Canadian host institution nominates them rather than the student applying. It funds a single exchange term, not a degree.

What it pays

$10,200 for four months, or one academic term, of study or research at the college or undergraduate level (the same figure applies at graduate level, rising to $14,000 for five to six months at graduate level). Funding covers airfare, selected living expenses, health insurance, visa or study/work permit fees and other eligible expenses. Global Affairs Canada contributes no more than $150,000 per institutional project, and the Canadian host institution disburses the money to the students it selects.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

For citizens of the countries and territories Global Affairs Canada lists for the current call (which for the cycle collected here included countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa — Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia — and Sub-Saharan Africa: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda). Applicants must be enrolled full time at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country and paying tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and throughout their time in Canada. Individuals holding or applying for Canadian citizenship or permanent residence are ineligible, as are those already holding other Global Affairs Canada or federal granting agency funding, and — critically — anyone already enrolled in a degree, diploma or certificate programme at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Students cannot apply directly: participating Canadian institutions select their own candidates and apply on their behalf through the MyEduCanada portal.

Show the eligibility source

Read this one carefully before counting on it. It is NOT a way to fund a Canadian degree. Study in Canada Scholarships pay for a short-term inbound exchange — typically one four-month academic term — while the student stays enrolled at, and keeps paying tuition to, their home university abroad. Global Affairs Canada explicitly excludes anyone "already enrolled in a degree, diploma or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution". Students also cannot apply directly: the Canadian host institution selects candidates and applies for them, so the practical route is to ask the international office at the Canadian university you want to visit whether it participates. It is included here because it is a genuine federal scholarship open at undergraduate level, and because Canada has no federal or provincial scheme that funds a full international undergraduate degree — the rest of Global Affairs Canada's international offerings (Emerging Leaders in the Americas, SEED-2, the Canada-China Scholars' Exchange Program, the OAS Academic Scholarships Program and Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030) are likewise short-term, or graduate and professional level.

Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship)

What it pays

EUR 300 per month, funded as a public-private match: EUR 150 per month from a business, foundation or private sponsor, matched by another EUR 150 per month from the Federal Government. Awarded for at least two semesters, and may be renewed up to the standard length of the degree, reviewed every two semesters. The scholarship funds do not count towards grants awarded under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG), and no social insurance contributions are payable on it.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Open to first-semester and continuing students of all nationalities, applied for directly at the individual German public or state-recognised university. Awarded without regard to the student's or their parents' income, and nationality is not a factor in the decision. Each participating university sets its own specific requirements; selection criteria include academic achievement together with social commitment and personal achievements, such as a student overcoming challenges in their social or family background -- so this is not a pure grades-only competition. Not every German university participates, and the exact application process and deadline are set locally by each one.

Show the eligibility source

Run by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Unlike a single central scholarship, this is awarded university-by-university: an applicant applies directly to their own German university's Deutschlandstipendium office, not to a central federal body, and eligibility/selection criteria vary by institution. The scheme explicitly states nationality is not material to the award, making it one of the few German scholarships genuinely open to international undergraduates from day one of their studies. Check with each specific university (via its own international office or scholarships page) on whether it participates and what its own application deadline and criteria are.

DAAD Scholarships (German Academic Exchange Service)

What it pays

DAAD scholarships do not have to be paid back. They usually consist of a monthly scholarship payment -- currently around EUR 992 for students and EUR 1,300 for doctoral/PhD candidates -- plus a flat-rate travel allowance. In many cases DAAD also covers health, accident and personal liability insurance, and depending on the specific programme there can be additional benefits such as a one-off research allowance, family benefits, or funding for language courses. Exact benefits vary by the specific scholarship programme, listed individually in DAAD's own scholarship database (funding-guide.de).

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

DAAD is not a single scholarship but an umbrella of many programmes, aimed primarily at graduates, doctoral students and postdocs for study or research visits to German universities and research institutions (some programmes also fund internships). PhD research grants are open to almost all countries of origin, while grants for a full doctoral programme in Germany go mainly to applicants from developing and emerging countries. Master's-level study scholarships are generally aimed at applicants from industrial countries, but specific programmes -- such as "Study scholarships for STEM disciplines" and "Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS)" -- are aimed specifically at students from developing and emerging countries instead. Each individual programme has its own call for applications and deadline, found in DAAD's scholarship database.

Show the eligibility source

DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) is the world's largest scholarship-funding organisation of its kind, supporting well over 100,000 German and international students and researchers a year -- but it runs dozens of distinct named programmes rather than one uniform award, so the actual amount, duration and eligibility a given applicant sees depends entirely on which specific programme in the scholarship database (funding-guide.de) they qualify for and apply to. Skews graduate/doctoral rather than undergraduate; a bachelor's student is unlikely to qualify for most DAAD study scholarships.

Open to citizens of a Chevening-eligible country or territory who commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after the award ends, and who hold at least two years' work experience (2,800 hours) gained after completing their undergraduate degree. Applicants for an award from an ODA-eligible country must also be resident in an ODA-eligible country.

The same eligibility page adds two requirements that fall outside the quoted passage: an undergraduate degree qualifying the applicant for a UK master's, finished at least two years before the application deadline; and applications to three different eligible UK courses, with an unconditional offer from at least one by the published deadline. Chevening funds one-year taught master's degrees only — not bachelor's degrees and not PhDs. British and dual-British citizens are ineligible, as are current and recent employees (and their immediate relatives) of a UK government department, the British Council or a partner UK university.

Commonwealth Master's Scholarships (UK)

What it pays

Approved return airfare from the scholar's home country, full approved tuition fees paid by agreement between the Commission and the UK university (the scholar is liable for no part of them), a monthly living stipend of £1,712 — £2,000 at universities in the London metropolitan area — and a study travel grant.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a citizen of, or hold refugee status granted by, an eligible Commonwealth country, be permanently resident there, be available to start the UK academic year on time, and hold at least an upper second-class (2:1) honours first degree, or a lower second plus a relevant postgraduate qualification. They must also be unable to afford to study in the UK without the scholarship.

Show the eligibility source

For candidates from eligible low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries, for full-time taught master's study at a UK university. Applications do not go directly to the Commission: each is submitted through an approved nominating body, and every nominator runs its own selection process and may add eligibility criteria of its own. A second master's would not normally be funded, and applicants who already hold a UK master's or a previous Commonwealth Scholarship at that level are not eligible. Child and disability-related allowances exist beyond the figures quoted here.

Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships (GOI-IES)

What it pays

A €10,000 stipend for one year of full-time study at NFQ level 9 or 10, plus a full tuition fee waiver that the host Irish higher education institution is required to grant for the scholarship year. Sixty scholarships are awarded each year.

Show the coverage source
Eligibility

Applicants must have a domiciliary of origin outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and must first apply for admission to a master's, postgraduate diploma or PhD programme at an eligible Irish higher education institution, under that institution's own admission procedures.

Show the eligibility source

A conditional or final offer of admission must already be held when the scholarship application is submitted, and proof of it uploaded with the application. Previous GOI-IES holders cannot reapply, Russian and Belarusian nationals are not eligible, and only one application per candidate is allowed per cycle. The scheme also funds PhD study (NFQ level 10), which StudyPath does not model — the level recorded here is the taught postgraduate route.

Open once a year, for master's studies starting in the autumn semester. Eligible programmes are English-taught master's degrees across a range of fields, and the list is republished each mid-November — a programme that qualified last year may not qualify this year. Residence in the eligible country is not required, but the citizenship is. Insurance is not included; the Swedish Institute advises checking what the university provides.

Banach NAWA Scholarship Programme

What it pays

A monthly scholarship of PLN 2,500, exemption from tuition fees at public universities, a NAWA-funded preparatory course on the Polish-language track, a PLN 2,500 travel allowance, and a Polish language and culture course on the English-language track — for full-time second-cycle (master's) studies at universities supervised by the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

Eligibility

Open to citizens of 36 countries covered by Polish development aid, across Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The full list of eligible countries is published in each call announcement.

Second-cycle (master's) study only — the programme does not fund bachelor's degrees. It is a joint initiative of Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Agency for Academic Exchange, funded as Polish development aid, so the eligible-country list follows that aid policy and is reissued with every call.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)

What it pays

A full scholarship covers tuition or research fees, medical insurance for international students, basic learning-materials costs, accommodation, a living allowance, a one-time settlement subsidy and one inter-city travel allowance. A partial scholarship covers one or some of those items. International airfare is the applicant's own cost unless a bilateral agreement provides otherwise.

Eligibility

Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health. Undergraduate applicants must have completed high school with good grades and be under 25; master's applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and be under 35; doctoral applicants must hold a master's degree and be under 40.

Provided by China's Ministry of Education and administered by the China Scholarship Council, which handles recruitment and day-to-day management. Scholars are placed at Chinese higher education institutions designated by the Ministry. Teaching is generally in Chinese: applicants with no command of the language are normally required to take one to two years of Chinese language courses before starting their major studies, though some postgraduate courses can be taught in English. Applications are made through education authorities, designated institutions or Chinese diplomatic missions in the applicant's home country, usually opening in January and closing in mid-April. The archived Ministry page describes the standing programme rather than one year's call, so per-cycle stipend rates, quotas and deadlines should be checked against the current CSC announcement before applying.

Italy

Italian Government Scholarships for Foreign Students (MAECI)

What it pays

A total of €10,800, paid into an Italian current account in the scholar's own name in three instalments. This applies to the scholarship categories in paragraphs 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 of the call, which include master's degree (Laurea Magistrale, 2nd cycle) programmes.

Eligibility

Candidates for the master's-degree scholarships (paragraph 1.1 of the call) must be of age and must not exceed 28 years old by the call's deadline, the sole exception being renewals of an existing award.

Offered by Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the 2026-2027 academic year, to foreign students and to Italian citizens living abroad. The award runs for a fixed nine months, from 1 November 2026 to 31 July 2027, and master's scholarships are potentially renewable. Selection is by citizenship and an applicant may enter only one country's selection process, from the eligible-country list published on the Study in Italy portal; applications are made exclusively through that portal, by 2 p.m. CET on 26 March 2026. Recipients are additionally covered by a collective health insurance policy contracted by the Ministry for the duration of the scholarship. Scholarships are awarded only for on-site attendance of courses in Italy — not for distance learning.

GREAT Scholarships (UK)

What it pays

£10,000 towards tuition fees for a one-year taught postgraduate course. For 2026-27, over 140 scholarships are offered by over 60 universities across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Eligibility

Open to students from 18 listed countries: Bangladesh, China, Egypt, France, Ghana, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam.

A fee discount, not a full scholarship: £10,000 goes against tuition and nothing towards living costs. Each award is jointly funded by the UK government's GREAT Britain Campaign and the British Council together with the participating university, and each university decides which of its courses are covered and runs its own application — so applications go to the university, not to a central body. The British Council's country pages list the participating universities and eligible courses for each of the 18 countries, and the list changes from year to year.
