Arancel anual 2026 · Priced for this course · All students — no separate international rate

The highest arancel among the Chilean entries on StudyPath — roughly 60% above Universidad del Bío-Bío's and nearly double Universidad de Los Lagos's — which is what Chile's top-ranked university charges. Chile publishes one annual arancel per degree and charges it to everyone; Gratuidad and the state fee caps that cut it for Chilean students in the lower income deciles run on Chilean state funding, so an international student should expect the full figure. Note this is the four-year Licenciatura, not the longer Ingeniería Civil title: UC's engineering faculty separately runs a Major en Ingeniería de Software inside its Licenciatura en Ciencias de la Ingeniería, which is a specialisation and not an award titled Software Engineering.

Arancel anual 2026: · Priced for this course · All students — no separate international rate

The UC labels this "Arancel anual", so it is a per-year figure rather than a whole-degree one. UC publishes no separate international tariff: the same arancel is charged whatever the student’s nationality, and a foreign student simply does not qualify for the state gratuidad or fee scholarships that reduce it for many Chilean students. A separate Matrícula is charged on top.

How UC compares

Against the other universities in Chile on StudyPath, using each one's verified international fees and its own published housing prices. Universities are only compared with others charging in the same currency (and, for housing, for the same period), so no figure here has been converted. A ~ marks a year worked out from a per-term or whole-course fee.

UC's lowest undergraduate fee for international students is CLP 5,600,000 a year, for Biología. Of the 16 other universities in Chile we list with undergraduate fees in CLP, 4 charge more at their lowest, 12 charge less. Their lowest undergraduate fees run from CLP 3,680,000 (UBB) to CLP 6,775,000 (PUCV).

Student housing. UC's own lowest published rate is CLP 200,000 per month. Of the 4 other universities in Chile we list that publish housing per month in CLP, 1 charges more, 3 charge less. Their lowest published rates run from CLP 55,620 (UdeC) to CLP 400,000 (UCN).

Accommodation

CLP 200,000–CLP 260,000per month

Monthly accommodation costs for Santiago as published by UC's international office in its 2026 guide for international doctoral students. None of these are UC-owned rooms - the same guide states plainly that UC has no university residences of its own - so this is a typical-cost figure for the city, not a hall rate. Every line is a 'desde' (from) price, and the guide says the values are averages calculated in April 2025.

  • Habitacion (dentro de una casa o departamento) - from; a room inside someone’s house or flatCLP 200,000
  • Departamento compartido - from; a flat shared with othersCLP 225,000
  • Departamento amoblado - from; a furnished flat, plus gastos comunes on topCLP 250,000
  • Estudio - from; a studio, plus gastos comunes on topCLP 250,000
  • Residencia estudiantil - from; a place in a private student residenceCLP 260,000

The table's own heading says these costs do not include gastos comunes - the building's shared service and maintenance charge - and the furnished-flat and studio lines repeat 'mas gastos comunes' on top of the rent, so nothing here is an all-in figure. Utilities and connectivity are priced separately on the same page rather than bundled: home internet from CLP 16,000 a month and a mobile plan from CLP 9,000, with a gym from CLP 22,000 and lunch on a UC campus at CLP 4,000-6,000. The guide states that UC has no university residences of its own ('La UC no posee residencias universitarias propias') and is not in a position to resolve housing for students; what it offers is a list of options and a warning that renting normally means a month's rent plus a month's deposit up front, two months' deposit for a furnished flat, and a broker's commission of half a month's rent. Separately, UC's admissions site describes the Beca de residencia Santiago, a need-based benefit that either pays 100% of a place in a partnered pensionado directly to the residence or, for 2026 renewals only, pays the student a monthly rent stipend. UC's guides for undergraduates and master's students still carry an older version of this cost table in US dollars, on averages dated 4 June 2021.

Published by the university itself, not a live listings price. Actual cost depends on room type, availability and when you apply.

After you graduate

Rules read 19 Aug 2026. Check the current rules, this may be out of date

What Chile's own immigration authority currently publishes. Not a ranking, not a guarantee, and not the same as what any agent or forum will tell you. Whether someone actually obtains residence depends on occupation, points, funds and policy that can change between application and graduation.

Route to citizenship

Chile's Servicio Nacional de Migraciones (SERMIG, under the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security) states that a Letter of Naturalisation (Carta de Nacionalización) — a means of acquiring Chilean nationality under Article 10 No. 3 of the Constitution, formalised through a decree signed by the Minister of the Interior on the President's order — may be granted under three routes. The ordinary route (Article 2 of Decree Law No. 5.142) requires the applicant to be 18 or older, hold a currently valid Permanent Residence (Residencia Definitiva), and have 5 or more years of residence in Chile, counted from when they first obtained the Temporary Residence stamp that led to the Permanent Residence they now hold. A parallel route exists for a foreigner's child aged 14+ who holds Permanent Residence and the same 5-year residence history, with notarised parental authorisation. A faster 'qualified naturalisation' route (Article 85 of Law No. 21.325, the Migration and Foreign Nationals Law) requires only 2 years of continuous residence for a Permanent Resident who has one of several specific ties to Chile: being the spouse of a Chilean national for at least 2 years with the marriage registered in Chile and a shared household maintained throughout; being a blood relative of a Chilean up to the second degree, or someone adopted by a Chilean; or being the child of a parent who was Chilean but lost that nationality before the child's birth. StudyPath found no SERMIG statement addressing dual nationality or a requirement to renounce the applicant's original nationality, so no claim is made on that point.

New entry added 19 August 2026. One Chilean government domain accepted as a government source here: extranjeria.gob.cl (covering its tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl subdomain — Chile's Servicio Nacional de Migraciones digital-procedures portal, the actual reachable source used here). On the source: the main www.extranjeria.gob.cl domain (and specific pages like /visas/visa-de-estudiante/) returned a browser error page and a curl SSL principal-name mismatch on every attempt, while the tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl subdomain worked reliably — a future collector chasing SERMIG content should go straight to the tramites subdomain. Chile's Migration and Foreign Nationals Law (Ley N° 21.325) full text was located on leychile.cl (Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional) and its 'imprimir' (print) view did render real static text via the browser, but the full norm is very long (183,616 characters) and this project's page-text extraction truncates at 50,000 characters with no built-in pagination could use to reach the Article 85 qualified-naturalisation text or any student-specific work-rights articles within the time available — the 5-year/2-year naturalisation criteria actually used above were instead found pre-summarised, with their own correct statutory cross-references (DL 5.142 and Ley 21.325 Art. 85), on SERMIG's own procedures portal. registrocivil.cl (Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación, which also plays a role in Chilean nationality documentation) was checked but sits behind a CAPTCHA challenge this project cannot solve. workDuringStudy, postStudyWork and residencyRoute are all left null: StudyPath confirmed that 'Propósito de Estudios' (Study Purpose) is one of the named Temporary Residence subcategories under Ley 21.325 (via SERMIG's own residence-permit overview, ver_ficha/245) but did not reach substantive text on work rights during study, a post-study bridge status, or the specific residence-length route from Temporary to Permanent Residence within the time available — recorded as an absence of found information, not a confirmed 'no'; a future collector should pursue Ley 21.325's Título on Temporary Residence subcategories and its implementing Decreto 296 of 2021 directly, ideally via a tool that can paginate past leychile.cl's 50,000-character extraction limit. inDemandOccupations is left null for the same reason. naturalisationStatus set to 'published-route': SERMIG publishes real, numbered residence-length and status criteria for both the ordinary and qualified naturalisation routes — per the doc comment on ResidencyPathway.naturalisationStatus this field records only whether criteria are published, not how demanding Chile's underlying Permanent Residence prerequisite is to reach. citizenshipTerms records the ordinary Carta de Nacionalización route: 5 years of residence, counted from the Temporary Residence stamp that led to the Permanent Residence the applicant currently holds, and requiring valid Permanent Residence at the time of application. The qualified-naturalisation route under Article 85 of Law 21.325 requires only 2 years but is limited to applicants with a specific Chilean family tie. dualCitizenshipAllowed is null: SERMIG’s page does not address renunciation.
