| University | Price | What it covers | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uni RostockRostock | €148 to €320 | Furnished room in a Studierendenwerk hall of residence in Rostock. The range covers one and two bed rooms in shared flats as well as single apartments, and varies with the hall’s location, the room and flat size, and the fittings. What is includedThe University of Rostock describes hall rooms as the simplest option for students in the city and recommends applying for one, particularly for short stays of one or two semesters. The halls are let by Studierendenwerk Rostock-Wismar. The university warns students never to obtain a hall room through a third party or to transfer money before holding a signed rental contract, as such offers can be fraudulent. | uni-rostock.deread 19 Aug 2026 |
| SRH UniversityBerlin, Heidelberg and Leipzig | €150 to €320 | SRH University's Heidelberg campus International Office publishes an official 'Student Residences in Heidelberg' guide of recommended private student halls near campus. Albertus-Magnus-Haus (Heidelberg-Neuenheim), one of the listed residences, prices rooms from EUR150 to EUR320/month. This is a recommended off-campus/private-hall option, not an SRH-operated residence -- SRH's own Wieblingen campus apartments exist but publish no rate on the university's site. | srh-university.deread 6 Sept 2026 |
| TU DresdenDresden | €150 to €250 | approximate monthly rent for a room in a student residence or shared flat (WG) in Dresden, from TU Dresden's own cost-of-living guidance for prospective international students — TU Dresden runs no halls itself; the residences are operated by Studentenwerk DresdenWhat is includedPublished on the pages of TU Dresden's International Center for Computational Logic for prospective students. The same guidance puts total monthly living expenses at a minimum of EUR 650-700, of which health insurance is EUR 60-100, and notes a Semesterbeitrag (registration/service fee) of approximately EUR 260 per semester that includes a ticket for Dresden's public transport network. The page carries no publication date, so treat the figure as indicative rather than a current-year quotation; TU Dresden's central housing page points students to the Studentenwerk Dresden hall-of-residence catalogue for actual rents, which it does not itself reproduce. | iccl.inf.tu-dresden.deread 18 Aug 2026 |
| FAUErlangen | €190 to €380 | Monthly rent FAU publishes for its students, covering both a room in a hall of residence and a single apartment on the private market2 room types
The same page puts food at about €275.00 a month, health insurance at an estimated €62.00 a month, the TV and radio licence at €17.98 a month, study material at roughly €100.00 per semester and the semester fee at €74.00 per semester. FAU notes that international students are expected to fund their own studies, since there is no German state financial aid open to them. | ib.wiso.fau.deread 19 Aug 2026 |
| BayreuthBayreuth | €200 to €360 | Published range for Studierendenwerk Oberfranken (SWO) student residences, depending on residence and room type. | international-office.uni-bayreuth.deread 1 Sept 2026 |
| OldenburgOldenburg | €200 to €420 | Studierendenwerk Oldenburg hall Pferdemarkt, the largest of its residences at 301 places: shared-flat room, single apartment and double apartmentWhat is includedSeparately, on the operator's own housing overview page, the rent is described as a base rent plus flat rates for operating and energy costs, and those flat rates cover refuse collection, heating, water and waste water, building cleaning, garden maintenance and electricity, with no back-charge ever made. Not included are a private telephone line and the Rundfunkbeitrag of 18.36 euros per month per household. Across all sixteen residences the span runs 200 to 460 euros. | studierendenwerk-oldenburg.deread 19 Sept 2026 |
| RPTUKaiserslautern and Landau | €200 to €300 | a room of about 20 m² in a residence hall, including additional charges (Nebenkosten), as priced on RPTU's own international-students accommodation guidanceWhat is includedThe halls themselves are administered by the Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern rather than by RPTU, but this figure is RPTU's own published one. RPTU also notes that a spacious 100 m² flat in Kaiserslautern can rent for as little as EUR 600 a month depending on condition and location, and warns to distinguish Kaltmiete (living space only) from Warmmiete (including utilities) — it puts additional costs at about 38% on top of the Kaltmiete. Flats on the private market are generally unfurnished, and even a hall room comes with only a bed and mattress, desk, cupboard and kitchen unit. | rptu.deread 18 Aug 2026 |
| TU ChemnitzChemnitz | €200 to €310 | Single room or flat-share room in a student residence close to campus, utilities includedWhat is includedTU Chemnitz describes the halls as a short walk from the university, the student clubs and the canteen. The quoted rent already covers utilities. | tu-chemnitz.deread 19 Aug 2026 |
| DHBW MosbachMosbach | €207 to €400 | The two Studierendenwerk Heidelberg halls in Mosbach, both a 500 m walk from DHBW Mosbach by the operator’s own account: single rooms in 3- to 7-person shared flats at Odenwaldstrasse 16/1, and 20 sqm single apartments at Odenwaldstrasse 16. DHBW Mosbach’s own FAQ names this operator — “Für die DHBW Mosbach ist das Studierendenwerk Heidelberg zuständig” — and lists Wohnanlagen among the services it runs.2 room types
All-inclusive rents: the Studierendenwerk's housing FAQ states that its rents are 'Alles-inklusive'-Mieten with every cost contained in the rent and no separate utilities statement, and that rent is collected monthly by SEPA direct debit. The broadcasting licence fee (Rundfunkbeitrag) is not included. Odenwaldstrasse 16 is the newer block (built 2019), 84 furnished single apartments of about 20 sqm with internet, four of them barrier-free, washing machines in the hall next door; Odenwaldstrasse 16/1 is the 1970 block, 19 furnished single rooms of 9 to 27 sqm in shared flats, some with a balcony or terrace, with no accommodation suitable for students with disabilities. Both are 200 m from the town centre and 350 m from the S-Bahn. | stw.uni-heidelberg.deread 26 Aug 2026 |
| Aalen UniversityAalen | €210 to €535 | entry rent at each of the seven Jugendwerk Aalen student residences, cheapest hall to most expensive3 room types
Every Jugendwerk Aalen residence states its monthly rent as including Nebenkosten. Rooms come with a bed and mattress, wardrobe, shelf, desk, chair and drawer unit, a washbasin, and TV, telephone and internet sockets; kitchens, showers and WCs are shared per floor or flat, with washing machines and dryers in the building. A one-off handling fee of 20 euros is due on signing and the deposit is three net cold rents. Parking is charged separately. Hochschule Aalen's own living page notes that Studierendenwerk Ulm runs only a private-room brokerage in Aalen; the halls themselves are run by the non-profit Jugendwerk Aalen foundation. | jugendwerk-aalen.deread 19 Sept 2026 |
| HS MittweidaMittweida | €210 | Dormitory rent Hochschule Mittweida tells incoming international students to budget for each month, in the student housing on campusWhat is includedThe dormitories sit directly on campus with the student cafeteria and shops close by, and are maintained by Studentenwerk Freiberg. A deposit of 300€ is payable at the start and refunded at the end of the stay if the room is left clean and undamaged. The university cooperates with Studentenwerk Freiberg for a limited number of places and cannot house every international student, so students who miss out have to find private housing themselves. | ausland.hs-mittweida.deread 19 Aug 2026 |
| HSBIBielefeld | €212 to €491.20 | Warm rent (all-inclusive of utilities and mostly internet) across Studierendenwerk Bielefeld's residence halls, named by HSBI's own International Office housing page as the operator of student accommodation for the university. | studierendenwerk-bielefeld.deread 1 Sept 2026 |
| LeipzigLeipzig | €215 to €435 | Studentenwerk Leipzig student halls of residence (serving Leipzig University and other Leipzig institutions), most rental prices, single room in a shared flat up to an apartmentWhat is includedAll-inclusive rent (heating, water, electricity, furnishings, internet). Individual halls range more widely, e.g. Str. des 18. Oktober 17 at €375-435 (room) to €450-550 (apartment). | studentenwerk-leipzig.deread 4 Sept 2026 |
| BTU Cottbus-SenftenbergCottbus and Senftenberg | €220 to €340 | rent including additional costs (Nebenkosten), per BTU's own published monthly cost-of-living table for Cottbus and Senftenberg — a city-level student rent figure, not a university hall rate (halls in Cottbus are run by the legally separate Studentenwerk Frankfurt (Oder), on its own domain, which is therefore not cited here)What is includedBTU gives the 2025 Cottbus average as EUR 287 per month and says accommodation can be found from as little as EUR 180 a month. The same table sets out the whole student budget: semester fee approx. EUR 62/month (EUR 373.80 per semester), food EUR 200, healthcare including health insurance EUR 100, and other costs (mobility, leisure, clothing, study materials, communication) EUR 280-406 — EUR 857-1,103 per month in total. BTU describes Cottbus and Senftenberg as among the most inexpensive university locations in Germany. Figures are sourced by BTU to the 22nd Social Survey (The Student Survey in Germany). | b-tu.deread 18 Aug 2026 |
| Kiel UniversityKiel | €224 to €489 | Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein’s Edo-Osterloh-Haus in Kiel, its largest hall at 535 units and, in the operator’s own words, only a few kilometres from Christian-Albrechts-Universität — ten minutes to the Audimax and Mensa I by bike or bus. Kiel University lets no rooms itself: its own international accommodation page tells degree students to apply directly to the Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein housing administration. The page does not state whether utilities are included, so this should not be read as an all-inclusive Warmmiete.9 room types
The hall has washing machines and dryers, fast WLAN and ample parking. The same page prices Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein’s nine other Kiel halls, which together house 1,964 students and are all near one of Kiel’s universities: the Christian-Albrecht-Haus in Düsternbrook runs 211-371 €, and other halls quote from 201 € for a place in a shared flat up to 451 €. The last row above, at 410 €, is an unfurnished flat for couples or single parents rather than a student room. Kiel University warns that dormitory places are limited and advises looking at the private market and at towns around Kiel (Gettorf, Flintbek, Bordesholm, Felde, Rendsburg, Eckernförde) reachable free on the semester ticket, that Studentenwerk halls are for bachelor’s and master’s students only with nothing offered to PhD students, and that every household in Germany pays a broadcasting contribution of 18,36 € a month on top of rent. | studentenwerk.shread 26 Aug 2026 |
| TH WildauWildau | €225 to €345 | Monthly rent range at the Birkenallee 50 and Schillerallee 1 halls of residence, two of the four Studierendenwerk West:Brandenburg residences in Wildau listed on the university's own housing page. | en.th-wildau.deread 1 Sept 2026 |
| TU IlmenauIlmenau | €226 to €447 | the twelve Studierendenwerk Thüringen halls of residence in Ilmenau, as listed with a Miete von / Miete bis column in the operator’s own hall directory — TU Ilmenau lets no rooms itself and its own housing page tells students they can rent a place on campus from Studierendenwerk Thüringen and apply online there. Pauschalmiete: the operator states the monthly rents include all operating costs, water, electricity and heating, and that the prices assume a minimum tenancy of one semester, with a markedly higher rent for shorter stays.10 room types
Rents are Pauschalmieten — all operating costs including water, electricity and heating are already contained in them. Two of the twelve Ilmenau halls are omitted from the breakdown above because the directory prints their “Miete bis” column as 0 €: Max-Planck-Ring 7 (Haus A, 81 places) and Max-Planck-Ring 16 (Haus C, 149 places), both listed at a “Miete von” of 242 €, which reads as a single flat rate rather than a range — Haus A’s own page describes just one room type, a fully furnished 12 m² single room on a corridor of 12 to 14 rooms sharing a kitchen and shower/WC, with a LAN socket and telephone point in every room, bike garage, washing machine and dryer in the building and a day nursery on site. TU Ilmenau’s own housing page publishes no Ilmenau rent at all: its only figure is the national average from the Deutsches Studentenwerk Sozialerhebung (about 1.000 € a month of living costs, of which about 440 € is rent including utilities), which is not what Ilmenau costs. Applications for the winter semester open on 1 April and the operator tries to make an offer to everyone who applies by 31 July. | stw-thueringen.deread 26 Aug 2026 |
| Hochschule StralsundStralsund | €236 to €379 | Studierendenwerk Greifswald residence Wohnheimanlage Holzhausen, on the Hochschule Stralsund campus, 274 places: single rooms and one barrier-free flat for single occupancy2 room types
As in all of this operator's halls, every operating and consumption cost — heating, electricity and water among them — is already contained in the rent, and so is the internet connection. Rooms are fully furnished. A deposit applies before the lease is concluded. Excluding the single accessible flat, the standard single-room range is 236 to 254 euros. | stw-greifswald.deread 19 Sept 2026 |
| DHBW Villingen-SchwenningenVillingen-Schwenningen | €237 to €315 | Studierendenhaus Schramberger Strasse 28-30 in Schwenningen, the Studierendenwerk Freiburg-Schwarzwald hall that serves DHBW Villingen-Schwenningen; furnished single room in a floor-sharing flat, WarmmieteWhat is includedWarmmiete: the page states that the rents are all-in, covering electricity, water, rubbish and internet, so this is a real cost rather than a Kaltmiete. Rents are Staffelmieten and step up over the tenancy, which is why the page writes them as 'from'. The hall has 37 rooms of 10 to 27 sqm in two large floor-sharing communities of 14 and 16 and a smaller 7-person flat, each student with their own room and shared kitchen, lounge and bathrooms; a car parking space is 15,00 EUR monthly on top. It is about 20 minutes' walk from the student restaurant. DHBW VS students may nominate someone to sublet their room during the practical phases of the dual programme. CAVEAT: the price block itself does not print the word 'monthly'; the only 'monatlich' on the page is against the parking space. German Wohnheim Staffelmieten are monthly by definition, and the English version of the same page reads the same way. | swfr.deread 19 Sept 2026 |
| Coburg UniversityCoburg | €240 | Starting rent for the university's own student residences (over 500 individual apartments) -- a floor price, not a full range. | hs-coburg.deread 1 Sept 2026 |
| LUHHannover | €240 to €500 | Studentenwerk Hannover residence hall room, including utilities | uni-hannover.deread 17 Aug 2026 |
| H-KAKarlsruhe | €246 to €329 | single rooms (Einzelzimmer) at the Adenauerring 7 hall of residence, run by Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe — the provider Hochschule Karlsruhe names on its own accommodation page as running the city's dormitories, with a contingent reserved for HKA studentsWhat is includedRestricted to the single room, which is the comparable unit for one student. The same page also gives 526-545 Euro for a Doppelzimmer, but never says whether that is the rent for the room or for each of its two occupants — the two readings differ by a factor of two, so it is left out rather than guessed at. The rent is a Warmmiete including heating, water, electricity and internet. | sw-ka.deread 26 Aug 2026 |
| KITKarlsruhe | €246 to €329 | single rooms (Einzelzimmer) in Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe’s Adenauerring 7 hall, which the operator places “direkt auf dem Campus Süd des Karlsruher Instituts für Technologie (KIT)”, in the Studierendenwerk’s own main building alongside the Mensa am Adenauerring. KIT lets no rooms itself: its international students’ accommodation page says some of Karlsruhe’s halls are run by a public student service, the Studierendenwerk, that application is central through the linked page, and recommends applying. Warmmiete: the operator states the price includes all Nebenkosten — heating, water, electricity and internet.1 room type
The hall offers 28 furnished single rooms with a washbasin, 2 furnished gallery rooms with a washbasin, 2 furnished double rooms (each with a washbasin and a gallery) and one two-room flat with bathroom and WC for families or couples. The same page prices a Doppelzimmer at 526 - 545 Euro but does not say whether that is per person or for the room, so it is deliberately left out of the range above. Facilities are LAN internet, a common room, a bike shed, and washing machines and dryers for a fee. Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe runs many more halls in Karlsruhe, each priced on its own page on the same basis: Klosterweg 7 quotes single rooms at 316 - 380 Euro (plus 4 Euro for a bike box) and Tennesseeallee 8 at 301 - 357 Euro (plus 25 - 34 Euro for a car parking space), both Warmmieten. KIT’s own guidance warns that rooms advertised at conspicuously low prices often belong to student fraternities (Studentenverbindungen), which it says do not have the best reputation among students and are not always open to international guests. | sw-ka.deread 26 Aug 2026 |

| SaarlandSaarbrücken | €252 to €280 | on-campus Studierendenwerk dormitory (Guckelsberg), as listed in Saarland University's Welcome Center dormitory overview for exchange students and freemovers. | Jade HochschuleWilhelmshaven | €255 to €265 | Studierendenwerk Oldenburg residence Peterstrasse 28, Elsfleth, about 300 m from the campus: 32 single apartmentsWhat is includedThe rent is stated as including Nebenkosten such as electricity, water and heating. The 32 bright single apartments are partly furnished and each has its own kitchenette and bathroom. Washing machines and dryers are shared, and there are car parking spaces and lockable bicycle stands. This covers the Elsfleth campus only; Jade students at the Oldenburg campus are eligible for the same operator's Oldenburg residences. | jade-hs.deread 19 Sept 2026 |
| HS KaiserslauternZweibrücken | €256 to €291 | Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern residence Virginiastr. 14, the only student residence on the Zweibruecken campus: 129 furnished single apartments1 room type
The rent is stated as including all utilities. Each apartment is furnished with its own shower and toilet and a kitchenette, at 19 to 29 sqm. One apartment is adapted for wheelchair users at 38.42 sqm and 440 euros including all additional costs, which is above the range recorded here. The residence also offers TV and internet access, an optional private telephone line, parking, a bike cellar, a washing and drying room and a common room, and stands directly on campus. | studierendenwerk-kaiserslautern.deread 19 Sept 2026 |
| Frankfurt UASFrankfurt am Main | €258 to €430 | Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main residence Stralsunder Strasse 24-30, 150 apartments: single room in a 3-person shared flat up to a barrier-free single apartment3 room types
The total rent contains the Betriebskosten, so there is no annual utilities reconciliation. TV and internet connection are included and the deposit is two months' rent. Shared-flat rooms use a communal kitchen and shower room; single apartments are furnished with a kitchenette and shower room. The 677 euro three-room flat in the same table is a whole family flat, not one student's rent, so it is excluded from this range. | swffm.deread 19 Sept 2026 |
| TU Bergakademie FreibergFreiberg | €260 | TUBAF's own published average for a shared flat (WG) on campus, utilities included — a single stated average rather than a range, because the university publishes one figure and no per-room-type rate table (dormitories themselves are run by the legally separate Studentenwerk Freiberg, on its own domain, which is therefore not cited here)What is includedTU Bergakademie Freiberg puts the average total cost of living for a student in Freiberg at EUR 500-600 per month and says students in Freiberg spend the lowest amount on average for housing of any German university town, citing a national rental-cost ranking. Student dormitories, private landlords and shared flats are all available; the university also notes there is no semester ticket for public transport in Freiberg, which is part of why its semester fee is only EUR 107. | tu-freiberg.deread 18 Aug 2026 |
| TH RosenheimRosenheim | €262 to €396 | TH Rosenheim's own housing page names Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern's halls as the official student housing channel in Rosenheim ('Information on rental prices and waiting periods are found at: www.studentenwerk-muenchen.de'). Figures are from that Studierendenwerk's own published rent list for its two Rosenheim halls (Marienberger Straße/Rosenheim I and Westerndorfer Straße/Rosenheim II), rent inclusive of utilities. A family-flat option at Rosenheim II (631.10 EUR/month, restricted to couples with a child) is excluded from the range as atypical for a general student listing. What is includedPer-room-type breakdown (rent incl. utilities/month) from the same rent list: Rosenheim I single room in shared flat 262.00-328.50 EUR, Rosenheim I studio apartment 396.00 EUR, Rosenheim II single room in shared flat 315.55-339.10 EUR, Rosenheim II apartment with shared kitchen 339.60/346.70 EUR. (A Rosenheim II family flat at 631.10 EUR is also listed but excluded above as atypical.) | studierendenwerk-muenchen-oberbayern.deread 6 Sept 2026 |
| Anhalt UASKöthen, Bernburg and Dessau | €263 to €291 | Studentenwerk Halle's Wohnheim 2 (Bernburger Str. 54) in Köthen, a one-minute walk from Hochschule Anhalt's Campus Köthen — Hochschule Anhalt owns no halls and its own housing pages state that the Studentenwerk Halle lets the five Köthen halls and send applicants to the Studentenwerk's site. Komplettmiete: the operator states the figure includes all incidental costs and electricity.1 room type
Rent covers all Nebenkosten and electricity, plus a data-network connection provided over Hochschule Anhalt's own network, and building cleaning; rooms come furnished with bed and mattress, desk and chair, shelf and wardrobe, and the block has a lockable bike room, washing machine and dryer, and the Mensakeller student club in the neighbouring Mensa Fasanerieallee. Studentenwerk Halle prices its other four Köthen halls on the same site, all on the same Komplettmiete basis: WH 1 Philipp-Semmelweis-Straße 290 to 317 € (one minute from the Fachbereich Informatik und Sprachen in the Ratke building), WH 3 Bernburger Str. 53 286 to 300 €, WH 4 Bernburger Str. 52b 263 to 287 €, and WH 6 Hubertus 1-6 248 € bis 299 €, so the Köthen range as a whole runs 248 to 317 € a month. The Studentenwerk also runs halls in Bernburg and Dessau, Hochschule Anhalt's other two sites, priced on their own pages. | HFUFurtwangen im Schwarzwald | €265 to €426 | Furtwangen University's own Campus & Life page names Studierendenwerk Freiburg (SWFR) as the operator of its halls of residence in Furtwangen and Schwenningen. SWFR's own page for the Student Houses Grosshausberg (301 rooms across 5 buildings, in Furtwangen) publishes an all-inclusive monthly rent (electricity, water, waste disposal, high-speed internet included) by room type, starting from each listed figure -- rents may rise with indexed step increases.5 room types

| Uni GreifswaldGreifswald | €280 to €401 | Studierendenwerk Greifswald's Max-Kade-Haus (Hans-Beimler-Str. 9), one of the seven halls it runs in Greifswald — Universität Greifswald lets no halls itself and its own Studentenwohnheim page says students in Greifswald apply to the Studierendenwerk, which runs seven halls with 740 places across the city. All-inclusive rent: the operator states that in all its halls the operating and consumption costs (heating, electricity, water) are already contained in the rent, as is the internet connection.3 room types
Rent includes heating, electricity, water and the internet connection in every Studierendenwerk Greifswald hall. The operator prices its other six Greifswald halls on their own pages on the same site, so a student can go cheaper or dearer than this one: Ernst-Thälmann-Ring 8-10 from 232 - 265 € for a single room, Geschwister-Scholl-Straße 11 a-e 262 - 329 €, Fleischerwiese I and II 276 - 349 € (accessible rooms 334 € and 370 €), Wilhelm-Holtz-Straße 4 a flat 234 € for a 13 m² single room, Makarenkostraße 47 a-c 350 - 380 €, and Bachstraße 27 337 - 449 €. Across the seven halls single-student rooms therefore run about 232 to 449 € a month; couple and family flats are priced separately and higher (from 510 € at Fleischerwiese, 569 - 626 € at Bachstraße, from 690 € for two people at Makarenkostraße). Greifswald's own cost page publishes no rent of its own — only whole-of-living totals from the 22. | HMMunich | €283.20 to €525.10 | Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern’s Studentenstadt Freimann, its largest complex at over 1,000 rooms, which the operator places 5.5 km from Hochschule München. Hochschule München lets no halls itself: its own “Wohnen in München” page lists Studierendenwerk München under Wohnheime and links to it. Warmmiete per month, from the operator’s “Wartezeit und Miete” list, Stand Juni 2026. The waiting list for these rooms is 3 to 4 semesters.3 room types
The operator describes the rent as a reine Kostenmiete — a pure cost rent covering all outgoings with no operating subsidy — collected monthly by direct debit, with operating costs charged as a monthly advance and reconciled at the end of the billing period. The same list prices every other Munich hall on the same Warmmiete basis, and one of them is earmarked for Hochschule München’s own students: Lothstraße 62, on HM’s main campus street and marked “vorwiegend für FH-Studierende”, lets 61 rooms in shared flats at 491,10 - 576,60 € with a 4-semester wait. Cheaper options exist elsewhere in the network — Chiemgaustraße lists rooms in 4-, 5- and 6-person shared flats from 334,80 € with a wait of only 1 to 2 semesters. Single-parent apartments and family flats in Studentenstadt are priced separately and much higher (628,00 € to 1.144,90 €) and are excluded from the range above. Parking, where offered, costs students between 6 and 35 Euro a month. | studierendenwerk-muenchen-oberbayern.deread 26 Aug 2026 |

Per-room rate, not whole-property rent.7 room types
Table is explicitly dated 'as of February 2023' by the university itself, so treat as indicative rather than a current-year quotation -- flagged here rather than silently treated as current. A EUR 600 security deposit applies (fully refundable if the room is returned undamaged), plus one-off fees of EUR 20 for a new contract and EUR 70 for bedding. There are no halls at the Gengenbach campus. The same page prices private rooms, also fully furnished, at approximately €350–€480 — the monthly unit is spelled out only on the halls line — and its English edition notes that the placement service for private accommodation is exclusively for students on international master’s programmes and for exchange students. For the student visa the university states living costs of about €992 a month, or roughly €11,904 for the first year, and every household separately pays the German broadcasting fee, currently €18.36 a month. | hs-offenburg.deread 18 Aug 2026 |

Single-person apartments in the same building have their own pantry kitchen with hob and fridge and their own bathroom, at 319 to 365 euros. Mietspanne = the rent range across room types in each hall. The operator does not state on these pages whether utilities are included, so do not assume a Warmmiete.3 room types
Studierendenwerk Heidelberg describes its rooms as generally furnished, with laundry machines and facilities from a washing machine to a music room depending on the hall. Its own page for the Gustav-Berger-Haus — the Heilbronn hall it places "nahe Hochschule HN", reachable from the university on foot — gives the split behind that hall's range: single apartments (about 17-20 m²) 360,00 € - 375,00 €, single rooms in 2- and 4-person shared flats (about 10-25 m²) 296,00 € - 310,00 €, furnished, with IP-TV and an internet connection, washing machine and dryer, parking and several study rooms, and states it has no accommodation suitable for students with a disability. This residence has fast WLAN over eduroam and some rooms have high beds. The deposit is 850 euros and an outdoor parking space costs 20 euros a month. IU describes dormitory rent as all-inclusive, with utilities and internet often included, rooms furnished, and many dorms running social events or providing common study areas; the trade-offs it names are long waiting lists, shared kitchens and bathrooms, and eligibility rules at some dorms. The same table prices the two alternatives: a room in a shared flat (WG) at €400–800 a month, and a private apartment at €1,200–1,800 in the city centre or €700–1,300 further out. | iu.orgread 26 Aug 2026 |

Two rental models exist locally: fixed-price apartments including all additional costs (water, heating, electricity), or a split basic rent plus consumption-based additional costs, where electricity needs a separate contract with an external supplier. OVGU's worked example for a small 59 m² apartment is EUR 310 basic rent plus EUR 135 additional costs (including heating) = EUR 445 total per month, on top of which the broadcast media fee of EUR 18.36 per month is not included. It also notes the city is small with good public transport, so living centrally is not necessary — nowhere is more than about 20 minutes from the centre by bus or tram. | ovgu.deread 18 Aug 2026 |

TU Braunschweig's same page prices a small private apartment at EUR 400-500 basic rent (Kaltmiete), rising to EUR 550-650 once additional charges, electricity, heating and internet are included, and warns that German apartments are often let without a kitchen. Rent is per place for a room in a shared flat (WG) and per flat for a self-contained apartment. The Studierendenwerk's two Kamp-Lintfort halls, serving Rhine-Waal's second campus, are priced separately in the same table at 320-380 EUR and are not included in this range.9 room types
Every room type in the Kleve table is listed as furnished (Möblierung: ja). The table also gives approximate room sizes in square metres and a waiting-time indicator per room type. The range covers single student rooms (Miete von / Miete bis). The operator marks every price "ohne Gewähr" and reserves the right to change it, and the table does not say whether utilities are included, so this should not be read as an all-inclusive Warmmiete.3 room types
The same row of the table prices flats for couples and families at Hartmeyerstr. 2 separately, at 699 € to 713 € for about 63 m², which is why they are excluded from the student-room range above. Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim runs many more halls elsewhere in Tübingen — the Altstadt, Südstadt, Lustnau/Sand, Waldhäuser Ost and the Französisches Viertel — each with its own table on the same page and rents that run wider in both directions. Four of the seven Altstadt halls are self-managed, meaning residents choose their own successors, so the operator advises contacting the current residents alongside the online application. Warmmiete: the operator states the rent includes all costs, like heating, water, electricity, garbage disposal and janitor services, with no additional payments to expect. Each figure is that residence's "price starting at" floor, not the rate for every room in it.4 room types
Hochschule Esslingen owns no halls. Its own housing page (hs-esslingen.de/hochschule/service/wohnheime, archived as data/snapshots/5aa02c9bd0a292fb.txt) states that the Träger of the halls at the Esslingen and Göppingen sites is Studierendenwerk Stuttgart and sends applicants to that site to apply, which is why the rate is cited there. Rooms come furnished with blankets and pillows; bed linen and towels are bought separately. ISM warns that it has only a very limited number of these rooms, allocated first come, first served, and that a deposit of roughly 700-800 EUR plus the first month's rent is due immediately on receiving the contract, before the semester starts. Beyond this block the same guide lists commercial alternatives in Dortmund starting at 695 EUR and all-inclusive warm rents from 720 EUR. TUM lets no halls itself: its own student-halls page directs applicants to the Studierendenwerk and states that exchange students cannot apply to these particular halls. Warmmiete — the operator’s list is headed “Warmmiete”, so heating and utilities are included. Waiting lists are 3 to 4 semesters for these rooms, which is why TUM’s own cost-of-living page separately advises budgeting 800–1,200 EUR a month for a shared flat or studio on the open market; that figure is what this record previously held, and it remains the realistic number for anyone who does not get a hall place.3 room types

The top of the range comes from a second room-type row inside the same Deutz block whose address cell the price list leaves blank.4 room types
The KSTW's own halls page says its roughly 5,000 rooms are let at rents below the average for comparable housing in Cologne, that about half are unfurnished and the rest already furnished, and that kitchens, laundry and drying rooms and an internet connection are standard; it also states plainly that "Die Warmendmieten enthalten die Energiekosten." The same price list covers TH Köln's other two campuses: at Gummersbach, "direkt an der Technischen Hochschule TH Gummersbach", Am Sandberg 7, 9, 11 at 287-297 €, Reininghauser Str. 41, 43 at 310-319 € and Auf der Platte 1 at 342-356 €; and at Leverkusen-Opladen, near the Leverkusen campus, Bahnstadtchaussee 29 at 465-486 €. Its legend defines EZ as a room off a corridor with shared kitchen, bathroom and WC, Ap as an apartment with kitchenette and shower room, and a WG-Zimmer as a lockable room sharing kitchen, bathroom and WC with one to seven other people. Living costs for a student visa
The living-cost figure for a student visa to Germany is €11,904 per year, on top of tuition. The authority attaches conditions that can change this amount, which student finance sets out in full.
Figure for 10.04.2025; read 19 Aug 2026 from allemagneenfrance.diplo.de. See student finance for how it has to be held.
How to read these prices
- Each is what the university publishes on its own site, usually for its own halls; the “What it covers” column says exactly what.
- Prices are only compared with others quoted for the same period and currency, so nothing here has been converted or scaled.
- A promotional or time-limited rate is marked and never listed as the cheapest option.
- Open a university to see its tuition, courses and the exact sentence each price came from.
